Spring training

For those who like to plan ahead, the (Capsule) New York trade show, ongoing now in Manhattan, offers a preview of items you're likely to be wearing next spring (or at least see being worn by the young moneyed set at the Cobra Snake). Overall, the vibe was hip but reserved, with many labels offering a more adult take on streetwear's traditionally flamboyant styles. A few highlights:

- Creative Recreation: The quirky sneaker brand demonstrated its breadth with a new line of footwear (pictured), made in Italy, which features the wearability and elegance necessary to get it carried at, say, Barneys. And yes: That's where the shoes will be available.

- Tsovet watches: A no-nonsense, no-frills design from David Bonaventura, the founder of Vestal, inspired by the wrist compasses used by Black Sea surveyors.

- House of Waris and Alex Olch cuff links: Molded in the shape of phrases in Morse code ("Whiskey Tango Foxtrot," "S.O.S.," etc.), just in case you need to tell someone you're in trouble with your shirtsleeves.

- Maui and Sons for Opening Ceremony: The boutique retailer had already resurrected the eighties mainstay. Now it's introducing a full line, including shorts, sweats, and hoodies.

- RodNYC: A diffusion line from hatmaker Rod Keenan—apparently, milliners have diffusion lines now, too—purveyor of classical styles in contemporary colors. (Provided your definition of contemporary includes purple, yellow, and gray.)
