Dear Alan

Apple fans had plenty to get excited about this week with Steve Jobs making his annual keynote at Macworld in San Francisco. The Macbook Air was the highlight - a notebook that sits just 1.94cm tall at its thickest point.

But its ultra-slim design comes at a cost - for starters there's no Ethernet port. Wireless is sexier than wired, but in our opinion an Ethernet port is an absolute must on any notebook.

If you do purchase a Macbook Air, you'll need a backup notebook/desktop to be able to sort out problems on your wireless router. My wireless network went down on Monday, leaving me to hook up my notebook via Ethernet to sort out the issue - something I couldn't have done with a Macbook Air.

Amazingly, Apple has also decided to install a non-removable battery. Anyone who makes long journeys will tell you that carrying a second battery is essential.

It might seem like we're simply looking for ways to knock Apple, but these are two huge flaws in an otherwise impressive notebook. Hopefully Apple will sort both out by the time Air v2 arrives.
